Flinders Ranges & Outback

If you're in the mood for adventure and excitement, then venture into the Flinders Ranges & Outback.

The Flinders Ranges and Outback provides a dramatic departure from the hectic pace of big cities, but it's surprisingly accessible. And once you're there, you'll experience things that make home look boring.

See the majestic natural amphitheatre of Wilpena Pound, a lost world located inside a giant stone crater. Go driving into the deep Outback and spend time exploring our legendary desert tracks. Or take a scenic flight over the Flinders Ranges. There's hiking trails, places to fossick for opals, and even a desert golf course with no grass.
The locals can give you all the tips you need for an adventure in the Flinders Ranges & Outback.

The Flinders Ranges is one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth. So when you're here, take time to dwell on the geological significance of the region. In Brachina Gorge, discover 600 million years of history including the formation of the ranges and the evolution of early life forms as you experience the 20km self-guided Brachina Gorge geological trail.

In Port Augusta, you'll find the Australian Aird Lands Botanic Garden with it's beautiful, hardy but delicate, arid land flora, bird and animal life. There are 12 kilometres of walking tracks for you to explore through this 250 hectare property. The garden is committed to research, revegetate, preserve and conserve arid land flora and animal life and to show you what you can grow in your garden.

When you visit the National Parks in the region, you get close to the natural beauty, wildilfe and heritage of the Flinders Ranges and Outback. See old homesteads, spectacular salt lakes, sleepy reptiles, wary dingoes, waterholes and mountains. Each National Park has something to offer. You can camp in most of them, and in some you can even try fishing and boating.
